Bleu Electrique Nude

Estee Lauder Bleu Electrique Nude Victoria Beckham Eye Duo ($60.00 for 0.06 oz.) pairs a bright, cobalt blue with a golden brown both with more matte finishes. The problematic shade was Bleu Electrique, which proved difficult to apply, blend, and had poorer wear, but the color darkened within minutes of application to a navy blue rather than a bright cobalt, even when I tried it over primer a second time. Nude performed much better, though it did not wear as long as I would have expected.

The duo contains a bit less than the average full-sized eyeshadow (0.05 oz. and these are 0.03 oz. each), despite the compact being more substantial in size. I also had to be careful as the mirror was so heavy that the palette would not stay flat on the table unless I had the mirror angled slightly over the eyeshadow pans to keep it from tipping.

Bleu Electrique is a bright cobalt blue with a matte finish with strong, cool undertones. While it’s not that uncommon for more matte eyeshadows to darken a bit on the lid, especially if applied over the natural lid (and the lid is not very dry or powdered!), it can darken as a result of coming into contact with the natural oils, what is uncommon is darkening to the degree that this did–to a blackened blue–and that it did so even over primer (I was so taken aback by how dark it got on bare skin that I also tried it over Smashbox 24HR Primer to see). It applied unevenly and had noticeable patchiness as product lifted from one area when I tried to blend and even out the color. It lasted for five and a half hours before looking almost mottled on the lid.

Estee Lauder Noir Vanille Victoria Beckham Eye Duo ($60.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a basic set of shades featuring a medium beige and a dark black both with more matte finishes. Noir proved more difficult to apply and blend out, and I suspect that many will prefer a black eyeshadow that’s more forgiving–one that can be used intensely but also more gradually–and Noir was not that. Vanille was much easier to use but easily duped with a myriad of brands and shades given it is a basic neutral color (nothing wrong with that but lots of competition this color family).

Noir is a medium-dark black with neutral-to-warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. There seemed to be an almost cream-like element as the finish did not read as flat as other mattes in the range have, but the texture was felt stiffer and drier in the pan than other shades as well. It had good pigmentation, but the dryness made the edges look ragged and dragged out rather than gently diffused or blended. I had the best luck using it packed onto the lid and then using a lighter shade to diffuse the edges. On me, it lasted for seven hours before turning patchy.

Estee Lauder Blonde Gold Eye Metals ($45.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a light gold with moderate, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. For swatching purposes, I tried it dry as well as damp, but it was fairly pigmented even without the use of a dampened brush. The texture was smooth, dense, and more-cream like, which helped the eyeshadow stay together on the lid and have minimal fallout over time. The eyeshadow was blendable, though there were bits of sparkle that came away from the area when I was blending it out. It wore well for six and a half hours before creasing on me.

Formula Overview

It is supposed to be a “rich color powder eyeshadow” that is “densely pigmented” that can be worn alone or layered. There are two shades in the collection, and they performed similarly, though Bitter Clove is a bit richer overall and longer wearing. They were nicely pigmented with very dense, almost cream-like textures that blended out easily on the lid and adhered to bare lids. I found that they were prone to creasing within six hours of wear, but the wear time improved to eight hours (before creasing) over primer, so primer helped but ultimately, this was not an ultra long-wearing formula. I did not experience much fall out, though, despite the high sparkle content in Bitter Clove (Charred Emerald has more of a pearly sheen). I liked them, but at the price point, it’s definitely a lot for a single eyeshadow, so they’re not going to be worth it for everyone.

The texture was lightweight, creamy enough to be comfortable and easy to work with, but it adhered well and did not slide around over the five hours it lasted for. The formula kept my lips hydrated over time.

Estee Lauder Heat Wave Illuminating Powder Gelee ($47.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a light-medium gold with warm, yellow undertones and a metallic sheen. It had a smooth, dense consistency that felt firmer but not in a stiff way, though you’ll want to use a moderately dense highlighting brush to achieve even application as I found very feathery brushes did not pick up product as well. (I find that this type of formula, which feels like a smoother, more refined baked powder, often describe as a hybrid formula, has this denseness/firmness.) The highlighter blended out nicely and didn’t emphasize my skin’s natural texture while still adding a lot of shine. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me before fading noticeably. This shade’s “pink” rings seemed to dissipate after a use (swatched, applied, and tested after removing possible overlay/overspray).

The Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick formula is supposed to have “high-intensity color” that hydrate lips with six-hour wear. It’s one of my favorite formulas, as the majority of the shades are creamy, smooth, pigmented, hydrating, and long-wearing (four to seven hours). They are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

Estee Lauder Nude Fatale Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a deep burgundy with cool, berry-ish undertones and a lightly glossy finish. The pigmentation was good, though it wasn’t opaque and was hard to build up due to the creamier, more emollient texture.

I felt like the product applied fairly evenly and didn’t sink noticeably into my lip lines despite being so creamy, and I didn’t experience any issues with feathering or bleeding past my natural lip line, but there was room for improvement in the overall application. It wore well for five and a half hours and was moisturizing during that time.

Estee Lauder Oblivious Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a lighter, rosy beige with subtle, warm undertones and a natural sheen. It had semi-opaque color payoff that applied fairly evenly, but it was one of the less-flattering shades in the formula I’ve tried. The color sank into my lip lines a bit, and the product seemed more prone to highlighting imperfections of my lip texture. The lipstick itself felt lightly creamy, emollient without being slippery, and was comfortable to wear. This shade lasted well for four hours and felt moisturizing over time.

Estee Lauder Chocolate Whip Hi-Lustre Pure Color Envy Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark brown with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly, metallic finish. It had semi-sheer to medium coverage with the latter being the level the formula was marketed as having.

The texture was smooth, lightweight, and thin with just enough slip to glide across my lips without tugging. I didn’t find this particular shade to be as luminous nor as flattering to lip texture/imperfections as others in the formula, though. It lasted well for four hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.

The formula is supposed to have medium coverage with a lustrous finish. It took the Pure Color Envy formula and added shimmer to it with the end result varying from lightly pearlized to more frosted and near-metallic. The shimmer was finer in size, so the lipsticks did not feel gritty on the lips, and the particles didn’t migrate as the lipstick wore down.

The coverage ranged from semi-sheer to nearly opaque, so it really depended on the shade on how true it was to medium coverage. The formula felt lightly creamy, thinner but not clingy, and with just enough slip to be comfortable to apply and to wear without feeling slippery during wear. The shades lasted from four to six hours and usually hydrating while worn.

The formula had a vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

It had semi-opaque coverage, which was more pigment than describe, and the color sank more into my lip lines over time. This shade stayed on decently for four hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

It had more of a pearl-like quality to it than overt shimmer, so it was a lot less shimmery compared to past releases in this formula.

The pigmentation was nearly opaque, rather than medium, so it was also more pigmented than marketed (which may be good or bad thing depending on what you like!). The consistency was lightly creamy, smooth, and lightweight with enough slip to be comfortable to apply but not slide around during wear. There was a smidgen of product that sank into my deeper lip lines that I could see in the close-up photo but not in person. It lasted well for four and a half hours and felt hydrating over time.

Estee Lauder Frosted Apricot Hi-Lustre Pure Color Envy Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a brighter, medium-dark coral with moderate, warm undertones and a subtle, pink and gold pearl woven through its more luminous finish. The texture was lightly creamy, emollient but not too slippery, and comfortable to apply in a fluid stroke, which yielded semi-opaque coverage.

It seemed a little more pigmented than marketed, which is likely not a deal-breaker for most. The color could have applied a little more evenly along the edges, but it didn’t look uneven in person. The color stayed on nicely for five hours and felt hydrating while worn.

The texture was slightly dense, not too firm, and felt velvety as I applied it, but it wasn’t heavy and didn’t seem slippery during wear. I’d recommend exfoliating prior to wearing it if you have more noticeable lip texture, but it didn’t seem to emphasize mine (but didn’t smooth out my lines or anything either). This shade wore nicely for five hours and felt lightly moisturizing while worn.

It was less of a true matte until an hour or two into wear, which was when the light sheen seemed to fade away. I also felt like there was a hint of very fine shimmer that ran through it.

It had good color coverage in a single layer, but didn’t apply as evenly as I would have liked–not bad and from a distance, I think it looked just fine–but at least it didn’t sink into my lip lines over time. The consistency was smooth, more of a dense, velvety formula that glided on without feeling slippery or wet. It stayed on well for five hours, left a stain behind, and felt lightly hydrating over time.

The formula is supposed to have "rich saturated color" that gives lips a "bolder, visibly fuller, defined" result with a matte finish. Most shades had semi-opaque coverage or higher, and the semi-opaque shades often could be built up to full coverage with a second layer.

The texture felt more velvety and smooth--silicone-like in that respect--but there were a few shades that felt more traditionally creamy, and as a result, had more of a sheen for the first hour or two of wear. Only a few shades seemed more matte to semi-matte but most had a satin finish, so if you prefer a very flat, matte finish, this line doesn't yield that.

The consistency is slightly thicker, though not heavy to wear, but I found that this sometimes led to color separating around or sinking into lip lines, which was often less visible (or not at all visible) in person. They lasted between four and six hours and were lightly hydrating. They had a sweet vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

Pretty Vain

Estee Lauder Pretty Vain Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark pink with neutral-to-warm undertones and a satin sheen. It had a bit more of a sheen and glow about it than other shades in the range, which tend to look glossier. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which applied evenly on my lips, but the actual consistency wasn’t as smoothing nor as flattering on my lips as past shades in the same formula have been for me. The texture felt lightly creamy, smooth, and was easy to apply as it didn’t drag or tug. It wore nicely for five hours and felt hydrating over time.

Power Trip

Estee Lauder Power Trip Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark ruby red with strong, cool undertones–which made it appear almost pinkish-red–paired with a luminous sheen. The color coverage was nearly opaque, while the color applied evenly and fluidly across my lips.

The consistency felt lightly emollient without being too slippery, which ensured the product applied comfortably but didn’t slide around during wear. It also smoothed out most of my lip texture and lip lines, so it was more flattering on. This shade lasted well for six hours, left a stain behind, and felt hydrating (and it didn’t feather on me, though that’s not something I’m prone to have happen!).

It had nearly opaque color coverage that applied evenly across my lips without tugging or dragging during application. There was a smidgen of product that settled into my deeper lip lines in the close-up photo but wasn’t noticeable in person.

The texture was lightly creamy, not too thick or too thin, and comfortable to apply and to wear as it had light slip but not to the point where it felt slippery during wear. It stayed on well for five and a half hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.
